Jeff Ravitz was the recipient of the Emmy for Outstanding Lighting Design from the Pacific Southwest Chapter of NATAS, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The accolade was for Ravitz’s lighting design of the 2013 awards program, A Salute To Teachers, and was presented during a ceremony that took place in La Costa, CA on June 14, 2014. He has been honored with the award three previous times for the yearly production, which he has designed annually for eight years.
The show was broadcast on Channel 4 San Diego on the Cox Cable Network, live-to-air from the beautifully restored Balboa Theatre in San Diego and is approached as a classy black tie and gown awards program. There are several musical performances interspersed throughout the evening, “which allows us to indulge in a wide spectrum of lighting styles,” says Ravitz. “It’s an honor to be recognized for a show that we love doing, and especially one that pays tribute to our dedicated and talented teachers.”
Ravitz recently designed the lighting for a concert scene in the upcoming John Chu movie, “Jem And The Holograms”, and the Game Show Network series Mind Of A Man, as well as the upcoming Heather McDonald stand-up special. He consulted on the broadcast lighting for a Jimmy Buffett concert special that was simulcast to ninety drive-in theaters nationwide on June 19 and soon will be webcast on Buffett’s video channel at www.margaritaville.tv.
Ravitz received the Primetime Emmy for a Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band special on HBO, and has received seven additional regional Emmys in addition to the recent award, as well as several Telly Awards. He was named the Parnelli Lighting Designer Of The Year in 2013 for his concert tour designs for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s tours since 1984.
