A Celtic Awakening: Faith Marion Robinson

A Celtic Awakening was produced in the chapel of Detroit’s ornate Masonic Temple. However, it is not a typical performance space. There are no standard lighting positions in the room. We had to create temporary, ground-supported mounting locations for all our fixtures, but, of course, the producers wanted the equipment to be unseen by the cameras. That was quite a challenge, and there were times that finding optimum lighting trumped fixture invisibility. Nevertheless, we were as discrete as possible to avoid blocking the architecture.

The program featured acclaimed American-Irish vocalist, Faith Marion Robinson, who imbued her show with a broad spectrum of musical styles. From Broadway showtunes to very traditional Irish folksongs and standards, Ms. Robinson and her multi-talented band of Irish musicians delivered a condensed version of Irish history against a backdrop of projected images that helped tell the story of her adopted land.

The broadcast received the NATAS Michigan Emmy® Award for lighting.
