Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band “Magic” Tour 2007-08

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band reunited in 2007 after Bruce’s two independent tours: the solo/acoustic Devils & Dust (2005), and Bruce Springsteen & The Sessions Band (2006).

The E Streeters were revved up and ready to rock to Bruce’s nostalgic, highly personal new album, with its wide range of expression—from heavy guitars and social commentary to classic sixties flashbacks. The show lent itself to drama, as only Springsteen can deliver, and stadium-sized, exuberant showmanship.

This show gave us, as lighting and production designers, plenty of inspiration and lots of shiny surfaces to light. Bruce likes shadow, and we had a great time dishing it up, creating as much film noir as an arena show allows, and then some.

We were encouraged to expand our color palette. We also spent a lot of time making sure the show looked great on the video screens.

In 2008, Bruce took the show outdoors. This exponentially enlarged version of the arena show simply lifted off Earth at sundown and orbited for around four hours until Bruce allowed it to finally return home—but the audience would surely never be the same!
